Full Stack Developer

grey curve

My First Five Years is an exciting young company on a mission to change international parenting for the better by empowering parents with knowledge through our 0-5 years old development tracking app.

Our strategic objective is to increase the stickiness of the app following a successful onboarding. You’ll work alongside the Head of Product and stakeholders, to grow upon the existing foundations of the App.

We have ambitious growth plans, so this role will be challenging to ensure that parents download, learn, enjoy and share the app to widen its audience globally. We’re passionate about making a difference to children and parents, our mantra is “doing well by doing good”.

As a software engineer you will lead the build and maintain the core platforms powering the My First Five Years mobile applications.

Our Stack

Our mobile applications are built natively for iOS and Android. Our API Platform is built in Node.js & Typescript with AWS Lambda and AWS Aurora DB, with Jest for unit testing. We have an admin portal built with Typescript and Angular. All our build and deployments are automated using GitHub Actions and our AWS infrastructure is automated with CloudFormation.

Your job will include

  • Being responsible for the strategy, development and maintenance of our API, admin portal and cloud infrastructure.
  • Building highly automated and performant systems tailored to the needs of our mobile apps.
  • Working in a small, collaborative cross-functional team, working closely with colleagues, partners and users (working from home, in the MFFY office for our fortnightly team days or meeting our users).
  • Leading by example by taking ownership, being proactive and collaborating across disciplines.
  • Fostering a great product engineering culture - outcome focused, iterative (build, measure, learn), working as a team and celebrating success.
  • Taking responsibility for clear, concise and meaningful technical documentation.
  • Driving innovation in our product, technology and team practices.

Desirable Skills and Experience

  • Demonstrable working experience with Node.js & Typescript & AWS Lambda (we’re happy to consider candidates from other backgrounds if you have significant experience with other OO languages).
  • Experienced with automated testing (unit, integration, contract, E2E). Bonus if you like the TDD approach.
  • Proficient in code design best practices.
  • Experience with CI/CD and maintaining AWS cloud infrastructure.
  • A demonstrable advocate for Continuous Delivery and automating anything that moves.
  • You enjoy working in small multi-disciplinary teams and comfortable working in a dynamic start-up environment where we often need to wear multiple hats and everyone gets involved in every stage of delivery.
  • You like to make things better, you care about quality and leaving things in a better condition than you found them. However, you’re also able to be pragmatic so we focus on what matters most.
  • You’re experienced working in agile software development environments.
  • You enjoy working as a team.
