Active story times – sing, clap, and move while sharing an action book
What you need
What to do
- Sing the action song while you read to your toddler.
- You might do this a few times to help them get familiar with the song and the actions.
- As you read/sing, try to copy the actions on each page.
- Give your toddler the time to look at the pages and try to copy the actions.
Good to know
Action song books are widely available and are excellent for active story sessions with your toddler. To see whether any are available, check with your local library, book exchange or charity shop. Some books include several songs, while others concentrate on just one. A beautiful example of a book with one song included is the board book If You're Happy and You Know It.
